Established in 1991, the Shield of Athena is a non profit organization whose goal is to offer support, prevention and intervention services to women and children victims of conjugal family violence.
These services are culturally and linguistically adapted to meet the needs of our clients and of the ethnic communities that we reach out to. Our services are available through the Shield’s network which includes:
- External services at our Montreal & Laval offices
- Community outreach program
- Emergency housing at our shelter, Athena’s House.
Why a honor based violence (HBV) microsite?
Through our network of services, we have recently seen the issue of honor based violence (HBV) become more prevalent. As such, we did extensive research on the topic, and we established and worked with a committee of health and social service providers so as to have a better understanding of the issue and how to intervene in such cases.
All of this work surrounding HBV led to the development of some very important tools which we would like to make accessible to people working with HBV victims, potential victims or any person interested in this matter. The information on this website will give you a better understanding of honor based violence and access to tools that may guide you in some of your interventions.
